Preparing students for life beyond the classroom is the goal for students at Maple Leaf Elementary. Students in Ms. Brooks, Mrs. Lanse, and Ms. Kalnitsky's classroom at Maple Leaf Elementary need skills that will help them live independently, acquire and hold a job, and support their transition plans. This year, they started a coffee cart that will support students as they develop skills in numeracy and finance, social skills and peer communication, operations and maintenance (including personal hygiene), as well as improve general soft skills and employability. Funds raised from the Coffee Cart are donated to the Garfield Heights Education Foundation.
The Education Foundation recently concluded its 1st Annual 12 Days Before Winter Break Gift Card Raffle, which was a success. Supporters of the Foundation were able to purchase a calendar for only $10 for 12 consecutive days in December, with numerous gift cards associated with each of the 12 school days before Winter Break in December. The multiple gift cards associated with each of the 12 days then went to donors whose names were eligible to win during the 12 daily raffles. The Foundation will again offer this exciting raffle next year to supporters of the Foundation. Pictured to the left is one of the winners of the Raffle’s daily drawings. Proceeds from the Gift Card Raffle will support student scholarships and teacher mini-grants.
